Filming Blog: Being Patient Is Always Rewarding

Image
On October 29th, 2020, I planned to start filming my commercial. The weather that day was beautiful and I thought that I would be able to capture some amazing shots. But as expected, the South Florida weather had a different agenda in mind. As soon as I got my brother, my father, and I ready to film, it started pouring. I got extremely frustrated because all of my preparations to film went to waste at that very moment. When it finally stopped raining, the sky was clear yet it still had a gloomy feel to it. This was not the ambiance that I wanted for my high-energy sports drink commercial. I was so close to settling for that atmosphere since my brother and father were ready and I didn't want to waste their time. But after thinking about it and talking it over with them, we decided to be patient and wait until the weather was the way I envisioned it to be. The next day the weather was closer to what I wanted for the commercial. I decided to seize this opportunity and record the footb...

Planning Storyboard for my Body Armor Commercial

Image
The First Scene In my first scene for the commercial, I will be filming my brother catching a football. This football will be thrown from off the screen to my brother. The location of this shot will be in an open field at the park. I will be using a mid-shot and then slowly transition into a long shot to film this scene. I want to use these shots to effectively showcase my subject and the background.  The Second Scene In the second scene, I will film my brother doing different exercises and drills. I will be utilizing a speed agility ladder and cones as props in this scene. He will use the ladder and the cones to do the exercises. The location of this scene will be the same as the first scene which is at the park. I will slowly pan the camera as my brother is exercising on the ladder.  The Third Scene  For the third scene, I will be tracking my brother as he runs with the football. Then he will throw the football out of the frame to transition into the next shot. This sce...

Planning for my Body Armor Commercial

Props The props that I will be using in my commercial are a football, a basketball, an agility ladder, and of course the Body Armor drink.  Costumes For my commercial, I want to have my brother be the actor since he is more athletic than me. My brother plays football and has done many other sports. So, the costume will be either one of his football uniforms or athletic clothing. The football costume would consist of his jersey, shorts, and football cleats. If he chooses to wear athletic clothing, I will have him wear shorts, a sweat-resistant shirt, and sneakers. In the case my brother cannot film, I will wear a t-shirt, leggings, and sneakers. I will also wear my hair in a ponytail to finish off my look. Schedule On October 21st, I researched my product and the conventions of a sports drink commercial. On October 22nd, I brainstormed and decided what my costumes, props, schedule, setting, and backup plan would be. On October 24-26th, I will work on creating the storyboard for my c...

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

Image
For my commercial, I decided to use Body Armor the sports drink. Although this drink is not as popular as Gatorade, I chose to do it because it is a healthier option and one of my favorite drinks. In this type of commercial, the viewers normally see athletic individuals taking part in sports or exercising. As I was researching, by watching different advertisements, this convention was expressed throughout the entirety of most ads. The actors were either in an outside setting or a training facility. The setting, facial expressions, and background music made the commercials even more powerful. The setting always seamlessly matched the intensity being portrayed in the advertisement. Moreover, the facial expressions of the actors also added to the excitement of the ad. To bring it all together, the background music was upbeat and it did not take away from the overall point of the ad. They utilized props like soccer balls, golf clubs, tennis rackets, basketballs, Body Armor, and much more. ...
