Filming Blog: Being Patient Is Always Rewarding

On October 29th, 2020, I planned to start filming my commercial. The weather that day was beautiful and I thought that I would be able to capture some amazing shots. But as expected, the South Florida weather had a different agenda in mind. As soon as I got my brother, my father, and I ready to film, it started pouring. I got extremely frustrated because all of my preparations to film went to waste at that very moment. When it finally stopped raining, the sky was clear yet it still had a gloomy feel to it. This was not the ambiance that I wanted for my high-energy sports drink commercial. I was so close to settling for that atmosphere since my brother and father were ready and I didn't want to waste their time. But after thinking about it and talking it over with them, we decided to be patient and wait until the weather was the way I envisioned it to be. The next day the weather was closer to what I wanted for the commercial. I decided to seize this opportunity and record the football scene on the field at the park. Although the field was still muddy and flooded with water from the other day, my brother was a trooper and persevered. My father helped out by throwing the football to my brother and critiquing him so that my commercial could come out as professional as possible. After I successfully captured all of my shots for the first couple of scenes, I was ready to move on to my second location and film. To my father and I's surprise, the basketball court near my house is being renovated. For this reason, we were not able to go in and film the basketball scene while the weather was still favorable that day. We decided it would be best to find another basketball court and regroup tomorrow. October 31st, 2020, was my last day of filming and boy was it a rough one. The day started with a harsh early morning storm. The weather remained like this, taking some breaks in between, until around 3 p.m. This gave me no hope of capturing any good shots for that day. But, I maintained that same patience I had when the same challenge came my way a few days ago. Around 4:30 p.m. the showers ceased which gave me an ample amount of time to record my scenes. My father, my brother, and I went to another basketball court that was close to us. Once we arrived at the court, we ran through the shots, perfected them, and then filmed them. It did start raining again while I was filming, but luckily the basketball court was covered so we did not get wet. The sun also stayed out as it rained so the lighting was still in a good condition to be filmed in. My brother and father did an amazing job helping me and suggesting different ways that I could make my commercial better. I appreciate them for being apart of this process through thick and thin. With their help, I was able to film all the shots I needed in the perfect atmosphere. Even though the weather was frustrating at times, I'm happy that I was able to be patient and produce the best filming work I possibly could.

I'm so excited to start editing my commercial and to see the final product. Please stay tuned for more updates. My finished commercial will be coming soon. I can't wait to talk with you again, see you next time!
