Filming Blog: Thanksgiving Week (A Minor Setback For A Major Comeback)

During the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, students are given that time off from school to celebrate and spend time with family and friends. I planned to begin the process of filming throughout this week because I thought this time would be the most ideal and suitable for the actors in my music video. I planned to start filming on the 21st and finish before the break was over. Sadly, this was not the case and all of my plans fell through. The days leading up to Thanksgiving were extremely spontaneous which caused my filming to be put on the back burner. My actors and I began to disregard the schedule we planned together and focused on spending time with our families. As the week went on and Thanksgiving came to an end, we decided to form a new schedule in which we tried harder than before to abide by. With this new plan, we started some of the filming towards the end of the week. I decided that filming for 90 minutes on the appointed dates would be reasonable for everyone. I did not want the filming to take up the whole day in which my actors had off. Filming the first couple of scenes was harder than I originally thought it would be. I wanted to make sure that all of the moving parts within my scenes were on tempo with the section of the song I selected. This had to be one of the most challenging things I encountered while filming and it took up the majority of the filming time from that day. In an attempt to overcome this problem, I played the selected clip from the song as my actors were participating in the scenes. I hope this method will not backfire and be proven as successful when I edit my music video. With one day of filming down, we planned to squeeze in one more day of filming before the break was over. Unfortunately, we were not able to do so because one of my actors had fallen ill and did not want to put the rest of us at risk. With scenes already being done with her in them, I was debating whether or not to enact my backup plan. This inner conflict came to a quick end when I realized that I should be patient and wait for her to recover so that a productive day of filming would not go to waste. With the time I had left from a day without filming, I began to gather the supplies I would need to create a green screen for the next filming session. These items included green poster boards, tape, and thumbtacks. Although I did not get as much filming done as I would have liked to, I am glad that I was able to begin my filming process.

I can't wait to film more for my music video and tell you all about it! Fingers crossed that my actor will feel better and that we will be able to produce a great music video. I'll see you next time!
