Planning for my Music Video

Song Title

I chose the song "Independent Women" by Destiny's Child.

Props

As of right now, I don't plan on using many props as there were not that many used in the music video. But, some of the props I know that I want to use are mirrors, makeup sets, and some hair care products. When I begin to draft out my scenes, I hope that I will incorporate more props into my music video.

Costumes

For my music video, I plan to have my actors matching and complementing one another. Destiny's Child was a girl group so their clothing and hairstyles were always coordinated with one another. I also want to include a lot of jewelry into the costumes to enhance the overall glamorous look I aim to accomplish. Finally, the actors will be wearing dramatic makeup to tie their looks together.

Schedule

On November 15-16th, I researched artists, songs, and music videos, and the conventions of R&B music videos. Once I selected my song, I focused on the conventions that were challenged in Independent Women. On November 16-17th,  I planned out what my costumes, props, schedule, location, and backup plan would look like for my video. On November 18-20th, I will work on creating the storyboard for my music video. I plan to make my storyboard as detailed as possible so that I will be able to film and edit evenly just like the project prior. On November 21-30th, I will start filming my music video. During this time, I will create and use a filming schedule with my actors to ensure that nothing will interfere with the filming of the video. On December 1-3rd, I will review all of the shots I have recorded to ensure that I do not have to refilm any of them. Lastly, on December 3-7th, I will work on editing my music video and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

Location

As for my location, I have many places in mind which I would like to film. My first location would be in an office-like setting. My next location would be at a mall or somewhere outside with beautiful scenery. Finally, the last location I would consider is a beauty salon. I also want to try and make a DIY green screen so that I will be able to do special effects, like the music video, for one of my locations. Although these locations are not set in stone, I am anticipating that I will be able to utilize some of these locations.

Backup Plan

If for some reason one of my actors can not be in my film I will ask one of my cousins or I will simply stand in the gap and have my brother film us. If the weather is not adequate for filming, I will move all of my filming into the inside locations I have selected. If my song does not end up working out, I will use the song "Right Here" by SWV. SWV is another girl group that produces R&B music. With this genre being so versatile, I would be able to utilize the conventions I researched, redraft my storyboard, and film a new music video.

I have a feeling that storyboarding will be so much fun! I can't wait to show you what I come up with. I'll see you next time!
