Production Blog: It's A Wrap

From the last time we have spoken up until now, I have made a lot of progress on my movie. Towards the end of my last blog, I explained how I had to keep refilming the sleeping scene since my actor was displeased with how it was turning out. I can now say that I have successfully filmed that bedroom scene and my actor is satisfied with how it came out. With the completion of that scene, the next thing left to film was the dream scene. In this shot, a car is seen speeding toward Alexsia. Jayden saves her by pushing himself and her to the ground causing them to get hurt. As expressed in my last update, I pushed back the filming of this scene due to the horrible weather last Saturday. This left me with time to practice the wound makeup on myself. It came out well but I was worried about how I would perform on a real day of filming. As expected, the wound makeup did not turn out well. Instead of looking like scrapes and cuts, the makeup just looked like smudged red lines.  I grew increasingly unsatisfied with how the final product looked. This prompted me to come up with a better alternative on the fly. Since my actors were already in place and I didn't want to risk wasting time in a store, I decided to make my own fake blood. I went back to YouTube to find a tutorial on how to make fake blood with household items. Luckily I found a video that made the blood using corn syrup, cornstarch, and food dye which are all ingredients I had in my house. After making the blood with ease, I was able to film the scene. I had originally planned to film this scene in front of houses, but my mom provided me with a better alternative to an empty parking lot. So we ended up filming this scene in the parking lot which I like a lot more. My actors and I had so much fun filming the scene and we are so happy with how the blood looks. I can't wait for you to see the blood that I made in the spare of the moment! With excitement still surging throughout our bodies, we moved on to our last and final scenes. Going back to the bedroom, I filmed Jayden waking up with the cut and blood from the dream scene. I also filmed Alexsia waking up in her bedroom with the wounds from the scene prior. We were extremely careful since we did not want to risk getting the blood on the comforters and messing them up. These scenes went by in a flash and were very easy to film. My actor was not self-conscious this time around and I believe this is thanks to the multiple retakes we had done of the other scene in the bedroom. He was so noticeably confident that we couldn't help but shower him with compliments. With the execution of these scenes, we finished filming the movie. With the rest of this week along with the weekend, I plan to review my shots and see if there is anything that needs to be refilmed. If need be, I will attempt to refilm the scenes during this time as well. If nothing needs to be filmed again, I will begin editing the movie. I am looking forward to editing and I can't wait to see all of the shots when they are put together. I'll see you next time!
