Production Blog: The Events of Spring Break (Camera Troubles)

Image
Spring break has finally come to an end and it has been a while since I have updated you on the progress of my final task. In my previous blogged I talked about scheduling and how I planned to utilize the break to my filming advantage. Initially, my actors and I had set aside three dates for the filming of the movie. In the end, we only ended up following through with one of those dates over the week-long break. But before we get into the details of what I filmed, I will take this time to give you a brief recap of the week. I will mainly go over the events which led to me being able to complete the portion of filming that I did. This will include my accomplishments, setbacks, and more that I went through whilst attempting to film. To my surprise, I did not have any major problems that caused me to not be able to film at all. In my previous projects events ranging from horrible weather to one of my actors falling ill interfered with the filming process. This time around it was much simp...

Preparing to Film my Final Task: Further Scheduling

Image
A few weeks ago, I created a schedule that I would abide by for the production of my final task. For the most part, I have followed my original schedule. Over the course of these past weeks, I have settled everything from my actors, filming site, equipment, and music. In my prior plan, I said that I would have started filming this week beginning on the 15th. This did not go as planned as I realized I had not begun my music search. It was important for me to do this because I wanted to have everything figured out or mostly thought about before I begin my filming process. This way that many problems could be encountered already and avoided as much as possible. But this did not set me back at all since I did not plan to do bulks of filming during this week. In addition to this, I was not readily prepared nor were my actors to film. Regardless of this, I am still in alignment and caught up with my current schedule. As spring break is hastily approaching, I will begin and complete the major...

Preparing to Film my Final Task: The Music Search

Image
As of right now, I have determined the actors, costumes, props, film site, and filming equipment for my final task. While deciding and preparing these certain aspects for filming, I realized there was something important that I had put no thought into yet. I did not think about what type of music I want, what feeling I wanted the music to elicit, where I would get the music from, and so and so forth. Music is key when it comes to producing a great film. It is a precursor for the events to come, influences the emotions of the audience, and adds a realistic and lively feeling to a film. On the surface, music may not seem to be that important, but it can directly affect and make or break the overall experience the audience has. For my opening sequence, music is incorporated as one of my characters is riding his bicycle. Since these scenes are aiming to be upbeat and energetic, I want the music to further enforce that mood. The music is especially important here since there is no dialogue ...

Preparing to Film my Final Task: Filming Equipment Alterations

Image
I have successfully cleaned and organized the rooms that I will be utilizing throughout my film. The next concern I have decided to tackle in preparation to film my final task is in regards to the film camera and angling. In past projects, I filmed my shots utilizing my phone or a family member's phone. But I have always noticed that I would run out of storage when I was in the middle of filming. This was not only annoying because it happened in the midst of my filming, but it hindered my ability to maintain consistent camera quality since I was switching from phone to phone. Not to mention that it was inconvenient when it came to editing since I had footage coming from multiple places. This time around I want to prevent these storage problems as much as possible. It is almost inevitable that I will run out of storage since this is the longest project to be done so far. To solve this problem and prevent future inconveniences, I have asked one of my family members, who does photogra...

Preparing to Film my Final Task: The Filmsite Preparation & Precautions

Image
In my last blog I established who my actors would be, the costumes they would wear, and the props that would be used. Pertaining to the actors, I came to the decision that I would use less of my immediate family. By my immediate family, I mean the family that I live with and see on an everyday basis. In order to switch things up, I reached out and confirmed with other family members to be apart of the production. But with this came the problem of where we would film the movie. Specifically being which one of our homes would we film in. To take into consideration and ensure the comfort of all of my actors we voiced different concerns and solutions. It did not take a long time for us to come to a conclusive decision. Since I had already planned my storyboard around the way in which my house is constructed, everyone agreed that there should be no reason to change the location of the home. I am extremely glad that they are willing and have no problem with filming in my house with the curre...

Preparing to Film my Final Task: Actors, Props, & More

Image
Before I begin filming for the final task, there are some aspects of the opening sequence I would like to already have figured out. I feel that it is important to do this before I even begin to think about filming because it will allow me to be well prepared. As of right now, this includes having a clear idea of who will be acting in the film, the props, and the costumes which are not yet determined. When it comes to selecting actors for my projects I always have some sort of difficulty and end up choosing my immediate family to participate in filming. But this time around I would like to switch up the cast and include other people within my family besides my siblings and parents. But the problem always comes when it is time to create a schedule for filming which will accommodate everyone. However, due to spring break, I was able to elicit more members of my family who were interested in filming. I now know for the most part who will be acting in my film. My next step is to create a sc...

Planning Blog For the Final Task: Storyboard

Image
Storyboarding is very important when it comes to producing a film. It allows you to map out each scene as far as the angles, camera movements, props, costumes, and more. Storyboards also allow you to clearly see your scenes so you can alter any problems within the film. When it is time to film and edit my opening sequence, this detailed storyboard will be more than useful since it will act as my blueprint. I can't wait to start filming my movie, I'll see you next time!

Planning Blog For the Final Task: Title Design

Image
The opening credits of my film will appear in a tall and somewhat skinny font. It will also be in all caps and there will be spacing between the letters. This size and tracking are especially important when it comes to this font since it is not as thick as other fonts. I will utilize this font and style for my title and the rest of the credits throughout the sequence.  An example of this font type would be the   A M A S T I C   S C   F O N T     that is present within Blogger. The titles will either be white or black depending upon the colors within the background setting. Either of these colors will create a nice contrast so that the lettering doesn't blend into the background.  I want the credit titles to appear on the bottom right of the screen. The name of the person holding a particular job will be bigger than that of their occupation. For example, D I R E C T E D   B Y   S E R E N A   N I X O N .  These ti...
